Katie Cutler
BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice
As a woven textile designer, my work embraces subtle colour palettes, shapes and form. Initially I gather inspiration from my day-to-day surroundings, predominately the geometric precision of architectural forms merged alongside organic lines and patterns. I then experiment with paint and collage to create compositions to take to the loom, thinking about the scale and proportion of my designs for an interior context. Both trend research and styling are crucial elements of my design stages as I intend to push my work towards a commercial market. Creative exploration of contrasting materials brings a uniqueness to my collections, interplay of fine silks alongside chunkier, off the loom weaving. This range and style of fabrics, in complimentary colour palettes, broadens the versatility of these collections, allowing for both indoor and outdoor use, encouraging the two spaces to be merged through textiles.
