Millie Shaw
BA (Hons) Fine Art and Art History
Millie’s work explores the border between fantasy and reality. This is inspired by videogames and dreams: her recent work’s main focal points. She often uses a range of realist and surrealist methods. However, she is also interested in the painting process itself, which in turn, occasionally produces works which lean more towards abstract and modern. She often explores overlapping elements within her work, which are usually excerpts from her own experiences. She works to develop this into a light-hearted, whimsical style that often features dogs and neon lights. Her work’s tonal range is brightly coloured, saturated scenes to emphasise the colours within her reference photos; an integral part of her reality-warping themes. These juxtaposed themes are her main source of satisfaction within her work - fantasy and reality, busy and calm, and the application of this into her painting workflow using a high contrast between light, dark and vibrance.
