Mollie Boardman
BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation
My practice centres around responding to a narrative or story, as well as telling a story myself. I mainly focus on book design and production but all of my work intertwines traditional methods with the digital, hoping to bring through textures from different mediums and processes. As well as book design, I am also interested in exploring zines and editorial images.
In my degree show I have included my final project, featuring a cookbook for my dad's pizza recipes and some other food he makes for his business 'Urban Crust'. Rather than just a book cover, I wanted to design a full book in a way I've not seen in the commercial market by using unique paper and some fun binding. I also wanted my dad to have his own cookbook for his own recipes (not just in his head or in a notebook) that he could showcase proudly. The cookbook itself showcases my developing skills in illustration, graphic design, bookbinding and hot foil embossing, and encompasses all the aspects of book design and production that I love and strive to better myself in.
