Newton Self
BA (Hons) Fine Art and Art History
Newton Self is a fine art and art history student who explores the digital age and the aesthetics of the internet within his work, with a particular focus on exploring the job roles of online moderators and how their work affects them both physically and mentally. Working on mirrors through the medium of screen printing, Newton aims to create a dialogue about the ethicality of employing people and paying them minimum wage to be subjected to extreme pressure and likely causing vicarious trauma to the individual through viewing extremely graphic and horrifying content. Throughout the series of mirrors, the aim is to give and bring attention to the voice of the moderators who are speaking out about their experiences in their job and how it affects them.
