Gregory Howard - MFA Painting
Gregory Howard (b. 2001, York) is a painter living and working in Manchester.
Through a dislocated process that moves between digital ordering and painterly intuition, unfolding over several months and encompassing varying durations of making, Howard’s practice invites us into fractured spaces and blurred temporalities.
As the objects in Howard’s painting transition from loose, gestural marks to controlled forms, and from paint as material fact to paint as illusion, the paintings enact their own materialisation. This passage becomes a metaphor for the objects themselves, which exist in a state of flux—oscillating between fragmentation or forming a cohesive whole.
