Laura Ioana - MA Performance
My name is Laura Ioana and I am a Romanian actress and I got my BA in Acting from The University of Arts in Targu Mures, Romania.
I was trained in ballet, ballroom dancing, contemporary dancing, voice, movement using different methodologies, Suzuki training, stage combat, directing, improvisation, acting for stage and film, adapting screen and stage plays and performance art.
By using the skills I acquired during my years of training, I am able to empathise and view critically the world around me which helps me embody any emotion and I am able to put myself in any situation required. My mantra is "there's no character, there's just you in a certain situation."
In my current work, I am exploring the notion of framing political conflicts, ideologies, and controversial events through the lens of Greek tragedies, the analytical psychology of the persona, ego and shadow and religious myths. I combine my classical training with projections, light shows and voice overs to actively make my audience question their black and white beliefs while exposing the grey areas in between. I intend to make my audience question their own realities while leaving them the agency to make their own choices and form their own opinions on the topics I tackle in my work.
