Nathan Burt - MA Performance
Nathan Burt is a artist, performer and writer from Manchester, specialising in laboratory theatre. Nathan's passion is telling story, through character and writing; while implementing exercises and techniques of the body to create unique, radical and energetic stories. Having come from a traditional acting background to finding a foundation in laboratory theatre; Nathan finds it an important part of his practice to keep hold of the ropes between characterisation, writing and more contemporary and experimental forms of creation.
Recently he has explored character and drama-therapy through 'My Inner Cowboy'. An auto-biographical performative deconstruction of his time during a residency at Nordisk Teatetlaboratorium in Denmark. Discovering how character can be a pioneer for healing and transformation. Recently Nathan has been creating his MA Performance major project 'The Beast of Mount Ükhel', which tells the story of a boy who makes it his quest to climb Mount Ükhel and kill the beast; avenging his father and honouring his village. Created with laboratory theatre methodologies and mixed with original contemporary writing; with a variety of energies, exercises and theatre anthropology techniques implemented.
It is important for Nathan's praxis to be able to tie the different corners that make him the artist together. To be able to find the lines between being a actor, writer and performer, but most importantly being able to be yourself; finding agency and ownership in his own work. As he transitions onto his MFA, Nathan plans to deepen his connection with character and auto-biographical work and exploring ones self through storytelling.
