I have enjoyed making work this year , a more relaxed approach and awareness of opening up the space in the painting, has been a step forward for me . After a period of reflection on recent events , I have been able to explore colour , wonderful rivulets of material forming the edges and demarkating composition , imbuing work with qualities that reference mythology and ritual in my ancestral history. I have also appreciated qualities within the painting, apparent when work is left to breathe , evidence of decision making and the effect on supporting fabric, contributing to nuance and allegory. Knowing when to step back has been important for me , and has revealed layers of past influences, other artists, and conversations with tutors.
I plan to show work with peers at a Gallery in Manchester in December this year, and am participating in the Beep beinale 2024, painting submission. (longlisted entrant)
