Abigail Gardner - BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice

Driven by a passion for bold, abstract visuals, I am a textile surface pattern designer who specialises in repeat print and digital design. Bold colour, graphic aesthetics and expressive form define my creative identity.

My work is rooted in digital processes where I use tools such as Photoshop, AVA and digital printing to develop impactful, contemporary patterns that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant.

My creative process begins by capturing inspiration through primary research and photography, focusing on architecture, emotion, and environment. I then translate these into compositions through digital exploration, mark-making and experimental colour play. With skills in screen printing and a strong understanding of surface design principles, I combine traditional and digital methods to create designs that are adaptable, innovative and commercially relevant.

I develop patterns for a wide range of applications from interiors to giftware, always considering the surface and space the design will inhabit.

At the heart of my work is an ongoing exploration of the relationship between colour, shape and scale. I’m particularly drawn to dynamic, abstract forms that reflect the energy and rhythm of contemporary design culture. I use bold pattern and thoughtful repetition to create surfaces that evoke emotion and invite interaction.
