Adrianos Falkonakis - BA (Hons) Fine Art
“Όπου φυσάει ο άνεμος της παραφροσύνης” (Wherever the wind of madness blows)
Duration: 5.00 minutes
Adrianos Falkonakis investigates how abstraction can re-define depictions of queer bodies in the form of hand drawn animation and sound. “Όπου φυσάει ο άνεμος της παραφροσύνης” (Wherever the wind of madness blows) follows a non-linear depiction of conception, evolution and transition, juxtaposed against a disembodied voice criticising queerness as an ‘unnatural sin’. This work draws visual influence from degraded artefacts and natural forms, and acts as a both resistance to compulsive heteronormativity and fetishistic depictions of queer bodies in contemporary art, questioning the necessity of explicit and defined identity in representation.
Transcript:
Although the easily understood things are omitted, nevertheless it appears and is proven by our erratic behaviour that because we have allowed our souls to be blinded by madness for pleasure, clarification and explanation of this anomaly is needed, because most of those who succumb to this strange desire are pushed by the spirit of the times.
They imitate some who publicly display this, so they can prove to themselves and those around them that they are modernised. Alas, this modernisation is nothing more than not just regression but complete moral stagnation. So then let us come to them, and let us each proceed on the path that is truly worthy for oneself, and not be dragged like a horse wherever the wind of madness blows.
And such was the power of their wickedness, that everyone had been overcome by evil and would not accept any reformation, but needed complete destruction because their passions could not be cured.
