Light of a screen

Andrew is a painter, writer and curator. After completing his BA at Central Saint Martins, he was awarded the prestigious Howarth Trust Discovery Scholarship, which enabled him to study a Master's in Fine Art at the Manchester School of Art. Andrew is also the co-founder and director of Studio Sanct, an atelier in the city centre of Manchester that fosters opportunity for artists through the practice of care within tattooing such as pop up exhibitions for local artists. As a painter, Andrews's work focuses on how memory, time, and lived experiences are recorded, layered, and reinterpreted. Recent projects include the work of “Light of a Screen: How can flowers bloom?” in which a series of paintings is based on different relationships of emitted light. How a screen and the presence of the artificial removes the connection we feel with an image, coupled with an examination of the historical context of European oil paintings, Andrew combines both the contemporary and historical to place an understanding on how and why we view paintings today.
