Annabel Lilly Kika

Annabel Lilly Kika - BA (Hons) Fine Art

Annabel’s practice navigates the intersection of painting and textiles, using calico, chiffon, and organdie to investigate memory, material intimacy, and inherited labour. Through processes of staining, soaking, and seeping, ink, dye, and pastel draw out quiet narratives embedded in fabric - allowing painting to move beyond the flat plane and into sculptural dimension. Draping and tension create flirtatious exchanges, where softness is held in place, and weightless surfaces pull against their supports. Fabric becomes both structure and surface, guiding how paint behaves, gathers, and breathes. Positioned between painting and object, her work embraces acts of reconstruction, repurposing discarded fragments and offcuts into quiet compositions that echo process, gesture, and the intimacy of what is passed down, held onto, or quietly transformed.
