Aria Lowden - BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation
Aria Lowden is an illustrator and printmaker based in Manchester. Her work is heavily inspired by her love of animals, nature, mythology and folklore, including strong narratives using both original and collaborative stories. Much of her work is created digitally with mixed media elements such as printmaking and collage seamlessly included.
Her work is primarily made for children both young and older, with a keen focus on picture and comic books. She believes that children’s media can provide the next generation with strong role models, education and representation. Her next steps are to keep writing, drawing and creating new stories, with the hope to get her work published. Her future aspiration and dream is to be the creator and producer of her own children’s cartoon adapted from one of her comics or books.
Her showcased work includes two original children’s narratives. A children’s picture book about how everyone can help their community “I’m going to save the world!”, made using laser cutting and collage with details added digitally. A children’s comic book “Bugging In” about a young child adjusting to his new life with a supernatural twist, created digitally with screen printed textures. The showcase also displays a large screen printed banner with hand sewn elements depicting her interpretation of the poem “Wormhole” by Jane Hilberry and other works from smaller projects.
When Aria isn’t illustrating, she can often be found reading, doing a puzzle or line dancing at her local pub.
