Metropolis

Scoring Metropolis was a great opportunity to allow a couple of my favourite influences to inspire me, notably The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Benn Burtt and Luigi Russolo.

I was particularly inspired by their tape-based manipulation of sound, alongside utilising modern wavetable synthesis to design sounds that would fit seamlessly within the vintage experimental sci-fi aesthetic.

Here Comes Science

The concept for this project was to create 1970s-inspired synthetic sound design to visuals; some of the visuals would be filmed by me and others would be taken from archival footage. For this, I painstakingly created a myriad of modular synthesiser sound design elements that enhance each clip, whilst staying within the limitations of using purely synthesis without samples or recorded material. This would fully immerse the project in the 1970s futuristic aesthetic I was striving for, where analogue synthesisers were the primary form of sound design.
