Beau Langmead - BA (Hons) Graphic Design
My practice is conceptually driven, often rooted in personal subjectivity to tell stories and evoke strong emotional responses. I focus on creating design that fosters community and connects people with ideas I feel deeply about. My process is responsive to each brief, as I don’t believe one size fits all as “the medium is the message.” This philosophy has led my work to span from installations to branding projects, including being proudly shortlisted for the 2025 BrandOpus Hatch competition.
To me, both branding and immersive art offer pure forms of storytelling; this is what gets me up in the morning and into the night. The underlying satisfaction comes from the emotional resonance design can create in others, whether it’s a sense of belonging, familiarity, or excitement.
Photography is an integral part of mypractice, it’s intuitive and allows me to capture moments that feed into broader narratives. When combined with design, it helps me draw out the nuances of a story, connecting images to wider research and understanding. This intersection of visual communication and storytelling continues to shape the way I approach my work.
The project “Violence of a thousand paper cuts” began as an objective archive that manifested into a subjective installation in collaboration with material lead artist, Mali Robertson. Responding to academic research around AI we aimed to highlight the potential dangers of the small but very human gaps in AIs wealth of information. The work questions ideas around consumer knowledge vs consumer understanding in a data driven world. We aim to convey how truth can be distorted when information is rationalised and taken at face value. When the sculptures are seen from straight on, they don't appear to be three dimensional; however, when the viewer implements their subjectivity and begins to move around them, the true structure is revealed.
