Camilla Rose Martinelli - BA (Hons) Fine Art
Camilla’s work seeks to take the notion of childish whimsy and translate it into an adult context, exploring the spaces that can enable and amplify this playful state. Inspired by an upbringing amidst Berlin’s iconic club scene, she has come to view these environments not solely as sites of excess, but as spaces with surprising potential for emotional release, transformation, and healing—particularly through the lens of humour and collective play.
With a background in more classically inspired work, she has since broadened her practice to better capture the emotional breadth of her subject matter. In this multimedia project, she explores a range of materials including oil paints, crayons, sparkles, ducks, a DS, cigarettes, and laughter. The result is a love letter to clubs and the unapologetic embrace of nonsense—a rejection of vague nostalgia for childish joy, and a call to arms to seek it in unexpected places.
