Carmen Sophia Leach - BA (Hons) Photography

The Caretaker

Carmen is a visual artist specialising in analogue photography and writing. Engaging across disciplines opens her practice up to the wider accumulation of material culture. Carmen’s photography encloses on space, keeping hold of it in a darkroom, forcing light back into its corners once again. Her five years of art education has allowed her professional skills to thoroughly develop, especially in conjunction with collaborative work. Organising and curating creative projects has expanded Carmen's curiousity and resolvenment.

...

The Caretaker is careful to preserve the condition of moments and unremarked upon things that are lost against institutional structures. Such material environments make us what we think we are and have long since began to constitute who we actually are.

The Caretaker
is removed from moments, as a curator or cleaner, student or mother, consumer or spectator – all witnessing varying states of incompleteness.

The Caretaker
is haunted by work and home. The home is indeed a powerful object. One must slow down and learn to take care of things again.
