Elvira Bernard is an oil painter who cultivates a state of being that allowes her to be moved by our world whilst actively keeping her feet on the ground. A space to become aware, question, sort through and redefine what she understands life to be and thinks is possible. Where intellectual dilemmas evaporate with embodied understanding that comes from painting brush-in-hand. The brushstrokes begin as experimental, moving between tentative and gutsy until the painting starts to take on its own agency and she moves into a reactional position. Then stagnation hits and calls for a disruptive force to challenge, destroy, melt, rub, collide and deform the surface she had so tenderly built up.
