Emilia Woods - BA (Hons) Fashion Art Direction

Throughout my work, I aim to explore new techniques and processes, with an underlying focus on sustainability through hand-making. Inspired by creatives around me, I draw from other disciplines to develop my image-making beyond the typical fashion image. Merging old techniques with new allows me to challenge myself, creating outcomes that feel innovative, tactile and relevant. I’m particularly interested in crafting interactive and textural outcomes that connect audiences to materiality and process. My ideas are rooted in observation and contextual research, often sparked by my environment, peers, shared emotional, cultural and sociological experiences, offering audiences contemporary and reflective outcomes.

My final major project demonstrated this, exploring innate human tendencies and generational trends through the intersection of objects and identity. This led me to archival research which inspired the multidisciplinary, interactive outcome: an archival box bringing comfort to our generation by reconnecting us with materiality and analog experiences. The handcrafted box contained a series of books and objects, each cataloged with numbers and thoughtfully created throughout the project. Together, these elements invited exploration and reflection on the emotional value we place on physical objects, and their role in shaping identity in a digital age.

Valuing process as much as a final outcome, experimentation, research and continuous learning shape my creative journey, often processes developed throughout projects inform the final outcome in meaningful ways. My goal is to bring audiences emotional depth and meaning to fashion imagery, creating socially relevant yet visually striking, tactile outcomes. I’m looking to expand my skills and continue learning through collaboration. I’m excited to refine my experimental practice for industry, whilst continuing to gain inspiration from current society, in hope to bring audiences or brands transparency, innovation and relevance.
