Seeking Light
“Seeking Light”, is a photographic exploration surrounding mental health, focusing on dissociation - a complex, and often invisible psychological response to trauma and anxiety. I aim to visualise the relationship people can have between the mind, body and environment. The images are constructed carefully in ways that I feel represent the feelings and emotions surrounding dissociation. The work is intentionally disorientating and dreamlike, creating visuals that reflect this elusive but isolating feeling. Central to the project is the use of artificial light, which I have manipulated to enhance the surreality and otherworldly qualities of the photographs. This project is formed from my own emotional experiences and from conversations with individuals who live with this as part of their mental health journey. “Seeking Light” is about fragmentation, reconnection, its impact on identity, presence and memory, and metaphorically, hoping to eventually find the light at the end of the tunnel.
