Fay Pritchard - BA (Hons) Fine Art
Fay Pritchard is fascinated by Japanese Buddhism and the interplay of light and shadow, a duality rooted in the ancient architecture and natural landscapes of her Japanese heritage. Working with diluted paint on light calico, she creates delicately layered compositions that embrace translucency, allowing natural light to filter through and engage with more defined, grounded forms. Warm hues set against airy cool tones evoke a sense of quiet mystery and tender nostalgia.
Her practice is deeply meditative: a mindful unfolding of emotion and thought through mark-making. Each work emerges intuitively, revealing unforeseen perspectives through the act of painting itself.
Expanding into ceramics, Pritchard carries her painted language into three dimensions, creating sculptural forms that blur the boundary between surface and space. These works reflect the interconnectedness of inner and outer worlds where light and darkness are not opposites to be resolved, but coexisting forces that softly illuminate what is often unseen.
