Georgia Noble - MA Painting
Through my painting practice I am exploring a compulsion to look back and examine what relics arise from a time when time itself felt gradual to me.
I use imagery woven from both reference and memory of that which is left over and channel a connection to nature, a reminder that our being here is transitory in comparison, to create paintings that feel uncanny and yet comforting, in the same way that an object of a deceased relative might find a place in a modern home and fit in a way that doesn’t make sense.
In an era of demand and ‘advancement’ at a constant acceleration, I make work that reminds the viewer that this current pace is not an obligation they should have to abide by. Whilst progress is made, damage can also be done to us.
Using oil, I layer pattern and image and build liminal space from memory and imagination to open a gateway in the way that painting can purposefully hold time within the marks made on a canvas, to offer a pause for exploration and reflection.
