RAVE ARCHIVE

Rave archive is a collection which showcases themes of nostalgia, music, memory, lineage and history of rave culture from past and present. Through the uses of video work and photography I have been able to express those themes and even highlight my own personal experiences with current day rave culture.

'Rave archive remastered' is the title of my video installation which communicates contexts of nostalgia, it uses mixtures of found footage and my own gathered camcorder footage to create a piece which reflects the timelines of rave culture and highlights 3 specific scenes, the birth of acid house, hardcore scene and jungle scene which then leads onto present day culture including my own personal stories and footage which even has the visual aesthetic from the 80/90s culture. Alongside the 15 minute piece is 2 side pieces which are a collage of my own footage in a slowed down loop, one video after another fading into eachother to make the piece more immersive. I wanted to take the viewer into a space which they could be not only getting that sense of enjoyment through nostalgia but also learning from that timeline and seeing all the hidden elements which are included. I want my piece to connect to a range of audiences from old ravers to new ravers.

My photogrpahy archive is a 3 piece installation which shows the atmosphere of jungle raves in manchester today expressing moments of movement, connections, feeling the music and taking you into those moments as the viewer. My photography also shows how the culture has also impacted my life personally.
