Flourish

I’m a designer with a strong focus on how people feel in the environments around them. My work is often driven by personal experiences and observations, which helps me design spaces that feel grounded, relatable and human. I’m especially interested in the emotional side of design, how things like light, texture, sound and movement affect the way we interact with spaces.

Flourish is a space designed to support autistic children during the transition from primary to secondary school. It was inspired by my sister, who found this transition really difficult. The aim was to create somewhere that feels safe, calm and familiar when everything else is changing.

The space is spread across three floors, each designed around a different emotional need. There are quiet sensory rooms for regulation, creative zones for expression, and softer spaces for support. The layout is simple and easy to follow, with colour-coded areas and gentle wayfinding lines that flow through the building like roots.

Natural materials were chosen for how they feel as well as how they look. Cork, timber and soft fabrics help make the space warm and grounding. There are also outdoor areas for planting and quiet connection with nature, which plays a big part in helping children feel calm and in control.

Flourish is not a replacement for school, but a space that sits in between. It gives children time to adjust, space to breathe, and support to grow in their own time.
