Jacob Lythgoe - BA (Hons) Filmmaking
Termination Date
Coming from a place where creativity was limited, moving to Manchester and studying at MMU transformed me. It gave me the freedom to grow and discover my passion for visual storytelling and filmmaking.
With a background in photography, I was drawn to the lighting department and the power it has in shaping a film’s mood. Over time, I took on roles like gaffer, building my technical skills on set. For my final-year project, I pushed myself further—writing and directing my first short film, Termination Date.
Rooted in personal experience, the film explores memory, grief, and the tension between duty and empathy. Developed with friends, it was a creative and technical challenge that deepened my love for emotionally driven, character-focused storytelling.
As a filmmaker, I’m drawn to naturalistic performances, strong visuals, and stories that stay with you—quietly asking difficult questions.
