The Half-Wolf

I'm Jess, a junior 3D character artist. I'm fascinated by storytelling, and I love bringing stories to life through characters; from designing, to sculpting, modelling and texturing, I have spent the last year evolving my skills in the entire pipeline for character creation in 3D, focusing on game-ready production techniques.

This project acts as proof of the evolution of my skills over the past year, depicting a character that I took through every stage of the pipeline, from concept art to fully fledged 3D character model ready for use in a game engine. It studies the style of Elden Ring and the art direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki's uncanny beauty in FromSoftware games. Re-envisioning Blaidd, the Half-Wolf knight from Elden Ring in the universe of Bloodborne, this project explores character design in a medieval fantasy world and attempts to capture those established aspects in a dark, Victorian Gothic setting. It is an exploration of the challenge of striking the balance between uncanny proportion and realism, as well as the beauty and subtle horror achieved FromSoftware design.
