Jessie Webster - BA (Hons) Fine Art
The Yellow Specimens
What would the earth be like if creatures of the past came into being?
Jessie Webster creates symbiotic beings that hold form in an in-between state, merging the human and nonhuman. Through use of liquid materials such as latex, glue and plaster, similar to the Anti-form artist Eva Hesse, Webster mimics the fragile fluid nature of skin with uncomfortable bright yellow tones which alienate with its synthetic plasticity.
By situating her hybridised forms alongside objects of familiarity, she urges a thought towards our current genetic technologies, that bring closer a reality where de-extinction is a possibiltiy, and a question of what this could mean for our, and the organic worlds future.
