My identity as a visual artist reflects the early exposure I had to Sheffield's Digital Art scene as a kid and my love for electronic music. This has led me to develop a practice in audio-visual arts and filmmaking. I’ve since embraced these aspirations by taking on a design role at The Warehouse Project and Parklife, working on identities for some of Manchester’s biggest electronic music events. Recently, my self-directed work has explored the process of deep mapping, looking at Peak District locations for inspiration.
My recent film Overexposed is an investigation into the wreckage of a B29 Flying Fortress which crashed on remote moorland at Bleaklow, in the Peak District. Drawing influence from the deep-mapping strategies of Michael Shanks and Clifford McLucas, this project combines new and archival footage with the artist’s creative responses to produce a hybrid of documentary and experimental filmmaking. Multiple narratives of the aircraft are explored and coalesced throughout the film, including its former role as a photographic reconnaissance plane for nuclear tests on Bikini Atoll, the event of the crash and the artist’s own investigative journey.
