Homeostasis

Manchester-based sculptor Katie Alcock dissects the complex relationship between human and machine by infusing an organic fragility into industrial materials. Grounded in posthuman discourse and inspired by domestic and biological interiors, her current work explores the home as a site of technological autonomy; a place where once passive appliances and objects no longer serve, but observe, absorb and evolve. In a world where smart devices adapt to our behaviour and language, concerns grow over data security and the quiet intrusion of artificial intelligence into our private lives. Alcock invites viewers to question who holds control in these spaces and whether the home remains truly ours.

At the beginning of her publishing career, Alcock aims to bridge the gap between artistic practice and academic research. She seeks to contribute to broader scholarly discourse through essays and art criticism, with a particular focus on posthuman and feminist theories. Her work, both written and visual, explores the social and political issues surrounding artificial intelligence and technological advancement, serving as a means to unpack and illuminate these often complex and overlooked topics.
