Keir Cain Cairns - BA (Hons) Filmmaking

Hello!

I'm Keir and I'm a filmmaker from the North West, UK. My time here at Manchester Metropolitan University has furthered my passion for filmmaking whilst also honing my skills and guiding me down a path of where I want my career to go.

I initially fancied myself as a director/writer. However, after progressing through the course, I relaised my calling was through producing. Balancing the creative and logistical side of film has led me to find my role within the craft. I equally enjoy investing my time into aiding creative decisions just as much as i enjoy creating schedules, budgeting, casting, location scouting and much more. I believe leading with calm and professional demeanor is essential to being a great producer. I look to further my skills beyond university by producing films with like minded individuals after university.

Whilst producing is my speciality, I have broadened my skillset. As of recently, I have become a directors assistant on other student projects where time, shot and crew management was my responsibility. I enjoyed this role and I believe that the skills from producing has translated over into being an AD where consistency, patience and perseverance are key into becoming successful into those roles. On top of this, I have become skilled in the use of gimbals. Videography work with the DJI RS4 as well as filming my festival selected poetry film all on a gimbal. Leanring this technical will hopefully lead to videography work or even grip work in the future.
