Kit Tozer - BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation

Kit Tozer/Erik Schön

I have two sides to my practice. One side, I do under my drag king persona, Erik Schön. The other is under my real name and identity.

As Erik, my artwork explores drag kings and queer culture as a whole. My series of drag king portraits showcases a group of performers most people don't know exist. I've spent the last year developing Erik as a character and growing a social media presence. I also freelance through Erik, producing art for queer events and running workshops. My ambition for the future is to return to events organising, run my own drag troupe and perform regularly.

As Kit, I explore whatever is of interest around me. My work focuses on my queer identity, religion, and my experiences of antisemitism/ostracisation. I produced the second issue of my zine "Alchemy" this semester, exploring dehumanisation and what happens when you aren't viewed as a person. I've been developing my visual language, making my style distinct and easily recognisable.

My art is created through experimental collagraph prints, using many different materials and techniques. The results are messy, letting go of perfection and leaning into raw communication and expression to the viewer.

Commercially, I'll be an illustrator for a publishing house, using collagraph, as a relatively unknown medium, to produce unique and distinctive illustrations.

Clients include Cambridge Alt. Pride (2024), The Folk and Ceilidh Society (2024) and performer TKMaxximus, who commissioned me for an animated film (ongoing).

I co-ran The Drag Kings of Manchester (2024-2025), producing posters, social media content, costume designs, costumes and props, as well as doing behind-the-scenes admin. I sell my zines and prints at art markets: for instance, at the Transfusion fundraiser (2025).

I've performed across England, including at The Warehouse Project's Homobloc (2024).
