‘SELL OUT’

Libby describes herself as an all-round creative, using the Degree Show as a platform to present her emerging specialisation in digital and installation art. Drawing from her deep interest in postmodernism and a deliberate attraction to incoherence, her work challenges viewers to engage with the uncomfortable contradictions of the modern overconsuming world.

Her latest series, ‘SELL OUT’, employs collage as a disruptive tool, manipulating sleek editorial imagery into an intentionally disorienting and invasive visual experience. Through this striking vintage computer aesthetic, Libby critically explores the relentless nature of corporate culture, offering a thought-provoking immersion into its pervasive influence.

Conceptually inspired by the expression of selling your self or soul, the work is inspired by her recent personal experiences navigating the marketing industry. She interrogates the hyper-aggressive strategies of consumer capitalism and the moral compromises often required to succeed within it—reflecting on the emotional toll and ethical erosion many face in the pursuit of creative careers post-graduation, unfortunately being a relatable experience for herself and peers.

This chaos is driven through her artist identity, ‘creatively complex’, a handle that introduces a layer of intentional anonymity. Liberated from personal constraints, it continually empowers her to push boundaries and make daring, striking choices, fostering a confident mindset where the concept of risk doesnt exist.

Libby’s practice integrates distorted audio, bold visuals, jarring glitching, and overwhelming technological interfaces to construct a sensory-rich environment. This immersive approach reflects a commercialised reality so omnipresent that, despite our best efforts to resist, we inevitably all become engulfed by it.
