Lucy Sumbler - BA (Hons) Graphic Design
I have a strong passion for both editorial and campaign design, where I like to focus on communication through design, and how what I am creating can resonate effectively to audiences. One of my favourite projects is a publication I created named 'Press Play', which celebrates the nostalgia and importance of DVD's and physical media, and comes packaged in a custom DVD case. I also recently created a publication named 'Cysur', which explores into comfort films, and why we feel comfort through certain films, and this comes packaged in a comfort blanket. I enjoy thinking creatively with my publication designs, and ensuring the reader has an experience with the publication from the moment they recieve it. I am also a Welsh designer, and try to include my Welsh culture into my designs where I can. I have designed a project named 'Siarad Ein Hiaith', which is a campaign to make Welsh the primary language in Wales, and encourage people to incorporate more Welsh into their everyday lives. This also contained a bilingual publication, highlighting the importance of the language, and each touchpoint was also bilingual to help people learn the Welsh language as well as understand what it means.
When creating my designs, I always try to evoke a meaning, and make it personal to me and the consumer. I design with my audience in mind a lot, and throughout my process I always think about how it will resonate with audiences, rather than it with me as the designer. After university, I am hoping to continue my visual communication skills, and continue to grow as an editorial and campaign designer.
