Mairi Macleod - BA (Hons) Fine Art

Greater Manchester

Mairi Macleod presents a curated collection of objects and paintings, all encapsulated by an audio-visual projection which invites audiences to step into her world. We find her inner child lying quiet, cradled by spirits and the ringing hymns of the past. In missing her homeland, Macleod crafts her own personal mythology; tying her ache for belonging into her fascination with Celtic folklore. Brief glimpses beyond the veil reveal the glowing, pulsing heart of Macleod’s work where language, ghosts, and landscapes of Scotland linger. Inspiration is drawn from the sacred site of St Mary’s Clootie Well in Inverness, a site which has long been regarded as a place of healing and quiet communion. By submerging a piece of cloth in the well’s ancient waters and tying it to a tree branch it becomes an intimate offering whispered to the spirits. Framing it all: “Cuimhnich air na daoine bho ‘n d’thàinig thu” — remember those you came from.
