Melanie Larcombe

Melanie Larcombe - BA (Hons) Fine Art

Melanie Larcombe opens a discourse around the queer experience through sound, sculpture, textiles and installation.

Using the radical politics of destabilisation to queer institutionally-dominated heteropatriarchal spaces, they playfully (re)visit historical ideas of Christian belief systems around omnipresence and ephemeral transformation. Removing the austerity of figural representation in sculpture pays homage to contemporary forms of abstraction, protesting the experience of authoritative surveillance and reflecting on ongoing political and cultural conflicts which have intensified fear mongering and marginalisation of the trans community. Acting as a voyeur to directly implicate the audience within artworks, they address a reclamation of autonomy and governance. Melanie aims to expose, subvert and reroute power under a hostile gaze, the innate refusal of fixity aspiring to materialise change for a distinctly queer feminist future.
