Mia Lord - BA (Hons) Fine Art
Inspired by her year living in Australia, where supersized flora appeared to her in technicolour, a curiosity towards the visually rich environment developed. Leaving Australasia with a sense of her inferiority, contradicting her Anthropocene outlook, she desired to explore this overwhelming feeling. At the centre of her work, is the delicate and intricate process of sewing painted paper fragments together. As the sculptural collages expand so do their fragility, unearthing a radical interdependence. Beating throughout her practice is an infinite loop of cycles; repeated organic forms and patterns balancing order and chaos. She invites the viewer to get lost within the vitality of colour and the human labour of every cut and stitch. The question of whether the work is of nature or from nature, lies wide open, in the hopes of examining our own effect and position within the ecosystem.
