Miranda Kyra Markidis - BA (Hons) Fine Art
Disruption and intuition lay at the core of Miranda Markidis’ painting practice. Her recent work challenges the traditionally hung, flat painted surface- through cutting into the canvas, revealing the stretcher, integrating 3D elements, or transforming paintings into sculptures. She is drawn to making processes that carry the excitement of risk and unpredictability.
In a time when AI-generated imagery creates distrust towards 2D visuals, she foregrounds the material qualities of painting. This push-and-pull between technology and painting traditions invites more embodied, instinctive modes of making and viewing within her work.
Through her layered installation paintings, Miranda hopes to provide a space for the viewer to find their own sense of navigation – through the digital and material, the seen and unseen, and the beautiful and grotesque- her fragmented environments mirroring the hybrid, everchanging landscapes of our digitised reality.
