Things That Happen In The Night

Things That Happen In The Night was a performance by Nathan Burt, presented as part of the Masters of Fine Art in Performance Degree. This performance told the story of a lonely writer navigating his way through his own stories and fantasies, while he deals with the personal and professional crisis of being a young artist in the 21st century. Highlighting the realities of social, economical and lasting repercussions for post-lockdown artists, this performances speaks to an emerging generation of universal trauma. Nathan Burt takes us on this nocturnal journey of discovery, imagination and healing, tying elements of writing, physical theatre, character and play together in this auto-fictional universe that sits behind a writer's wooden desk. 

Nathan Burt is a multi-disciplinary British artist, writer and performer. He recently graduated from The Manchester School of Theatre with an MFA in Performance, specialising in Laboratory Theatre. Nathan is trained in the methods of Theatre Anthropology, Classical Theatre and Contemporary Theatre practices. He recently travelled to Denmark to complete a residency at Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium, where he worked with Cross Pollination theatre company. His most recent work was Things That Happen In The Night, an original one-man performance that he wrote and directed. In this auto-fiction piece he explores themes of imagination, loneliness and the nocturnal through intertwining stories. Performed in Manchester 2025.
