Olivia Henderson - BA (Hons) Fine Art
Olivia’s paintings quietly tell a story- they are the still moment that sits between what has or what will occur. Vast open spaces are given atmosphere through a cautious colour palette, occupied by various inhabitants, their ambiguous presence hint at what lies beyond the canvas’ edges.
She paints the untouchable distance of a horizon, the boundary between ‘here’ and ‘away’- often obscured by silent onlookers whose intentions remain unclear. The narrative is withheld, allowing tension and ambiguity to settle in the space between subject and viewer.
Ideas for paintings arrive through surprising, spontaneous moments and the conversations these create with the internal voice we share a body with. Her paintings are of the way things feel, rather than the way things are, they compel a deep observation- asking the viewer to actively look, rather than passively see.
