Phoebe Lily Heathcote - BA (Hons) Fine Art

Phoebe Heathcote investigates the historical and architechtural impact of britain's post-war housing and how it has transformed our urban landscapes through the immediacy of their construction. Working with lino printing, the lines, shadows and striking contrast of the ink on paper emphasises the starkness, monotonous and eeriness these estates hold.

Through the use of black and white she accentuates the deterioration both in the physcial condition and public perception of post-war estates. She Focuses on the bold and deserted domestic scenes that we pass by everyday but often overlook. Through printing she reflects on the repetitive design of this type of housing and the archetypal characteristics that make these estates so controversial, and in turn how the subsequent breakdown of social housing ensued.
