As a lesbian, or more specifically a dyke, my practice is informed by my political identity as well as the community that surrounds it. Despite the negative historical connotations associated with the term, my work aims to highlight the significance of the dyke identity while also paying homage to my lesbian ancestors, friends and elders within the community who have made such reclamation possible.
My work aims to capture themes of the political lesbian identity, community, desire and sexuality through mediums commonly affiliated with D.I.Y subcultures (in which there were often overlap with queer communities) such as zines, badges and patches. Throughout the course, I have also started an inter-disciplinary collective by the name of Manc Dyke Collective (MDC) in which I work closely with my friends and other dykes in the Manchester scene to foster community through craft by hosting workshops. Working collaboratively has not only provided more depth to my work but also to my understanding of lesbian communities, history and practices in which I hope to continue learning as the collective grows and my practice matures.
I encourage you to check on my instagram which also has links to the MDC page if you'd like to check out the workshops I've run in the past as well as future events in which all dykes are welcome!
