The Spaces In-between

At the core of Ruby Butler’s practice is the written word, not just as a tool, but as her primary material. Poetry and storytelling form the substance of her work, shaping its very structure. Butler treats language as a fine art medium in its own right, exploring how text can be expanded beyond the page into physical, spatial, and performative dimensions. Her recent projects translate writing into installations and performances, transforming words into embodied, experiential forms. Drawing from Stoic philosophies of presence and the art of dwelling in the spaces in between, Butler’s work invites reflection on how we inhabit time and place. In doing so, she asserts writing as an art form to be felt, encountered, and inhabited.
