Ruby Eden - BA (Hons) Fine Art and Art History
Ruby Eden is a painter who explores themes of memory and place through the depiction of space and objects, and their place within the domestic. She utilises the gestural nature of oil paint by painting directly onto wooden panels to create visible brushstrokes and luminous scenes. Inspired by Bachelard's The Poetics of Space, Eden takes a phenomenological lens, beginning with personal lived experience of significant spaces, and communicating these notions to form a narrative of home that is both collective yet deeply personal. She explores the way in which the structural architecture of a space can mould light into shape and form, and these negative shapes often act as the foundation of her paintings. Her practice is an ongoing investigation into the interweaving relationship between the sensory, physical home and the ephemeral, intangible concepts we associate with it.
