Sangam: Hands of Creation

The spirit of sangam, the place of meeting, the crossroads of hands, stories, emotions is what inspires my practice. All my works are an effort to integrate ties: between the individual and the group, between tradition and fantasy, between the visible and the intuitive. The handmade is defined to me as more than an act of making; a conversation between material and maker. The gesture of the hand leaves traces of time, attention and will, turning crude textures into containers of sense. Forms, colours and patterns become languages in their own right and address harmony, identity and memory. So craft is not merely decorative but very human - it is full of the warmth of presence and the mute poetry of labour. I am interested in the ways that art can provide a sense of belonging. Exhibitions, photography, and collaborative projects have allowed me to create an environment in which individuals feel represented, engaged and connected. No matter how much energy I have to capture with a gathering, organizing exhibits, or welcoming visitors, I do so with a belief that I can create most when it fosters inclusivity. Potential resonance is what motivates me. I want my work to be something to look at; I want my work to be an invitation - to stop and contemplate and engage with each other. Every picture, every hand-made object is a little piece of a bigger story, as we are reminded that we are sharing something. My work can be seen as, in some way, a search of harmony: of hands and hearts, of one voice singled out in the chorus, of art as a medium that can bring us closer to one another.
