Syd Bailey - MA Sound Design
Hi! My name is Syd, and I am a Musician, Electroacoustic Composer, and Sound Designer with a special interest in foley and field recording, game audio, ambient soundscapes, and interactive sound design for museums and theatre. Over the course of my MA, I've had the opportunity to broaden the scope of my source recording through work on projects utilising reel-to-reel tape recorders and experimenting with some interesting new mics and micing techniques, such as EMF pickups, contact mics, and micing insects in the field. I have also discovered a love for creating sound effects and soundscapes for video games, spurred on by my work with fmod and Unreal over Semesters 2 and 3. Another important aspect of this MA has been the possibility of collaborating not only with other sound designers, but various visual artists- from Semester 1's multi-media installation 'A Different Kind of War' at the Imperial War Museum North, to my final project in Semester 3, where I designed, recorded, and performed an interactive dreamscape to accompany a series of animations. This project will be exhibited at the MA show, though we are planning to develop the concept into a playable game. Please check out my website to hear a selection of my work!
