Get Your Head Out of the Lamp Aaysha!
The concept of this project is based on my experiences of going to my grandma’s house as a kid. With no TV, no other kids on the street and the same toys I've played with hundreds of times before, I turned her furniture into my new playthings. The curtains, carpets and everything in between were used as characters in my imagination, creating stories and fantasies to escape the boredom.
As an adult, I still get lost in my imagination, but this time, I can bring those childhood characters and memories to life. My illustrations are based on my three final outfits that I have made for my collection, all based on furniture and items around my house, which I have turned into different characters that I made when I was younger. They are a love letter to my past, my heritage, navigating the different cultures I grew up around, and most importantly, to myself.
