Echoes of the Hippie Trail
My project is inspired by my grandad’s journey during the 1970s. At the time, his job involved driving groups of hippies along the well-known “hippie trail,” travelling through Europe, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India in his van. Along the way, he collected a variety of mementos, which have influenced my work and inspired elements within my project. The stories he shared about his experiences, combined with the spirit of the 1970s, particularly the rejection of materialism and traditional social norms, as well as strong beliefs in peace and anti-war ideals, have all played a key role in shaping the theme of my project.
