Exploration of Contemporary Life in Illustration and Animation
I am an illustrator/animator, with a focus on human life and the passage of time, with an interest in how both people and environments evolve. I have a playful, colourful style, which allows me to explore many aspects of contemporary life, from the fun to the more serious. My audience is invited in through relatable and sympathetic characters, and their spirits are enlightened and lifted, irrespective of their demographic.
I explore contemporary life through drawing, print and animation to create expressive, sequential imagery. The purpose is to depict motion, progress and momentum. I demonstrate motion through my character’s facial and bodily expressions, and how fast/slow I decide to make them move. I provide insight into a character’s personality through the way I make them look and move; highlighting a wide variety of walking and running cycles with physical and emotional gestures. For example, a determined character would cover a long distance with long strides. I also show momentum in how my characters keep up their speed, as I like all my work to have action, with consistent movement from one scene to the next seamlessly.
I also like to keep a hand-drawn quality; lending it a personal touch, hence why I like to work in 2D for my illustrations/animations. I champion fluidity to not only show expressiveness and exciting interpretations, but to show a human element to my work. I believe that work produced by a sentient human creative has more soul and effort put into it rather than AI, as the textures are detailed and painstaking, and I feel that will always be valued over something generated by a computer.
I would really like to work in an animation studio and bring my own creative experience to a new environment.
