Feeding Futures
Feeding Futures is a vibrant nutrition hub in Stockport where children and parents learn together through fun, playful and interactive education that strengthens knowledge and enriches quality time.
By responding directly to the specific challenges that communities in the most deprived areas face, the project aims to narrow the gap in health and wellbeing differences from one area to another. The goal is to provide the local residents with accessible resources that enhance their nutrition in a fun and interesting way for both the child and the parent. Improving both mental and physical health through going to this space will contribute to a thriving Stockport community.
The space includes food play for the children to engage with, cooking classes, allergy testing, a fruit and vegetable garden as well as nutritious food bank.
The concept of the project is roots and it runs within the whole space. Plants get their
nutrients from their roots and roots are a symbol of unseen strength that is critical to plants growing and surviving. In this concept roots are a representation of the importance of nutrition for the body, to survive, thrive and live a healthy life and diet is often the “root” cause of health problems. The materiality has been chosen in connection to the concept with the use of earthy tones as well as thinking about sustainability qualities.
The project has been thoughtfully designed to address the diverse needs of Stockport residents, particularly focusing on those who are living in the more deprived areas. Acknowledging the varied social and economic factors within the areas, the nutrition hub has been designed to provide comprehensive support for children and parents through education and engagement.
