Ella Jones’ practice focuses on the sculptural exploration of natural forces, such as wind, through the anatomical investigation of bird flight. She developed upon the metaphor of flight as an idea of freedom, to critique the growing alienation from the natural world in the age of commodification and technological dominance.

Through sculpture, Jones’ work attempts to provide viewers with a moment of pause, enabling reflection on our relationship with nature in a contemporary urban context.

By using steel as the main structural material of her sculptures, Jones contrasts the delicate and organic shapes she creates to draw connections between the natural, humanmade and industrial. She combines steel frames with semi transparent materials, such as latex, to explore negative space and the invisible force of wind.
